Team Information

General Info:

The Eagle’s Wings competitive team competes within the USA Gymnastics Junior Olympic Program. Team members compete in power tumbling, double mini-tramp and trampoline. The competitive team is made up of boys and girls ages 6 - 18. The beginning level of competition for tumble and tramp is level 4, with the highest level being 10 and Jr/Sr elite. Team is by invitation only. The training schedule will vary based on the class your child has been invited to compete. Training hours depend on athlete level.

Coaching Staff:

Amy McDonald - Head Coach

amy-2010Amy was born in Indiana where she began gymnastics at age three. She did artistic gymnastics until her family relocated to Utah. After the move, she continued with artistic gymnastics, adding tumbling and trampoline to her training. Amy soon discovered tumbling would be where she excelled. In 2002 she graduated from Box Elder High School and went on to pursue her athletic goals in tumbling. Amy was invited to compete at the Pan American Games in Florida in 2004. She went on to win that competition. In 2005, Amy moved to Houston, Texas in hopes of making the World Championships Team which would travel to the Netherlands. She made it, and the team went on to receive 2nd place. In 2009 she repeated this event in Russia at the World Championships. Other accomplishments of Amy’s include being a member of the USA National Team Four times, being a member of the 2007 Gold Medal World Championships Women’s Tumbling team, and being named athlete of the year for winning the gold medal at World Championships. Amy loves this sport! Not only does she compete in it, she also judges and coaches it. She has been coaching it since she was fifteen. She currently coaches multiple state, regional, and national champions here at EWA.

Bret Stout

bret-2010Bret has been coaching since 1986. He established the Richardson Gymnastics Boys Team while studying Kinesiology at UNT in 19?? which produced several State, Regional, and National Champions. After college, he worked for Texans Corporate Health Clubs and began the Allen Gymnastics Boys Team. He left Allen briefly to teach school, but returned to rebuild the Allen program where he again coached several State and Regional Champions. Next, he went to North Star as the Men’s Program Director and helped author and speak for the ITP-Boys 1 at GAT.

In 2003, his dream to open up his own gym - Eagle’s Wings Athletics - came true. Today, EWA has nearly every discipline represented from USAG. Bret has transitioned from the Men’s Program to the T&T program, but his contributions toward the men’s program and GAT will always be remembered. He continues to coach State, Regional and National Champions.

In 2009, now Head Coach, Amy McDonald was one of his power tumblers as an alternate to the World Championship Gold Medal winning team and member of the Silver Medal Team at the World Championships where Bret was an assistant coach. For many years, Bret was a Nationally Rated Judge and even assisted as a line judge once on floor at the American Cup in the Men’s artistic program. He is currently a nationally-rated tumbling judge. Since being elected to the GAT Board and the North Texas Trampoline and Tumbling Board in 2007, he has continued to promote education for the growth needed in the T&T program throughout north Texas, the state and the country.

Josh Williams

josh-2010Josh Williams was born in Sherman, TX and grew up in the area of Bonham, TX. He has a Bachelor of Science Degree from Texas A&M University - Commerce, majoring in Human Performance with a concentration in Exercise Physiology. He has 6 years of coaching, women’s artistic (4 years USAG compulsory) and Tumbling and Trampoline (2 years) Competitive Teams. He has several State and Regional Champions in Tumbling and Trampoline with 5 going on to become national champions. He is a Category 1 Double-Mini Trampoline Judge. He has judged many competitions ranging from local competitions to VISA National Championships. He started gymnastics when he was 7 years old and stopped in middle school to play basketball through high school, but kept up with his tumbling through the years. Josh started competing Tumbling and Trampoline after High School and is currently still competing in Tumbling and Double-mini trampoline as a Junior Elite. As an athlete he has trained on the same teams as members of the senior elite national team and world champions.
